The Ekosol Citizens Association is a youth, environmental-friendly association dedicated to raising public awareness of the possibilities of technologies such as renewable energy through education, but more importantly, practical work, with the aim of improving the quality of life and environmental protection in Tuzla County and beyond!
HOW WE STARTED?
Our story began at the premises of the Public Mixed Electrical Engineering High School in Tuzla. We started the idea as graduate students with our professor during class through project teaching one of the favorite methods of students and professors in this school. We started with the preparation of the project “City Tourist Train on Solar and Electric power” in order to give a small positive example against air pollution in our city which is becoming more present and unsolvable. We applied our project to the Tuzla Community Foundation Public Invitation as an informal “eco” group. During the implementation of our project, the idea was developed to replace our train powered by a noisy tractor engine into a train that would use only electricity generated from renewable energy sources for its power supply. How we collected information and interviewed the public about our opinion on our project through the research work and the campaign we did. At the end of its implementation, we concluded that we had done the campaign, so how we could reach the final goal, solar and electric powered cart. Since we received support for this project from the Tuzla Community Foundation, a new support has emerged and we went for the establishment of an association. This is when our association, which, in accordance with our mission – ecology and renewable energy (solar) – was called “Ekosol”.

After its founding, Ekosol went uphill and projects were being followed one after the other, and certainly the most significant is “Smart Start: Sustainable impact of civil society through social entrepreneurship and innovation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Turkey”. The project is being implemented with the support of CPCD Sarajevo (Center for the Promotion of Civil Society Sarajevo) within the framework of the European Union Pre-examination Assistance Instrument (IPA II) in BiH. This is how we create our MAKERSPACE multifunctional classroom and workshop, the first of its kind in our City and county.
